"Notes on Indigo Night/Gravity White"
"Indigo Night/Gravity White, Nine Landscapes for DS", 2021, was painted as an appreciation of my decades long friendship with artist, Don Suggs. These nine panels were made by Don, left unpainted in his studio, and given to me by his widow, artist Linda Stark. While contemplating how to approach them as paintings, I acknowledged that Don and I held landscape in high regard. We both loved wildness and sought out those locations as sources of profound creativity. The questions we both asked were, "What do you see when confronted with wilderness? How do you see what you see?" and "Why do you see wilderness the way you see it?" Don, I miss you, your insights, and your wit. I hope this suite of paintings would conjure up a smile.
